Gender

Gender is used by traditional Saju for the direction of your Luck Cycles and the reading of your spouse star.

This service uses the late-Rat-hour (yazi) rule: the day changes at midnight, and a birth from 11 PM to midnight uses the same day with the Rat-hour pillar. True solar time is applied using Seoul as the reference.

How the Saju reading works

What is Saju (the Four Pillars of Destiny)?

Saju (사주, “four pillars”) is Korea’s traditional system of reading character and life rhythm from the moment of birth. It is the Korean branch of what China calls BaZi (八字). Your birth year, month, day and hour are each turned into a pair of symbols (a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch), giving four pillars and eight characters in total.

Is this the same as a BaZi calculator?

The method is the same family of calculation. We compute the pillars with an astronomical solar-term calendar, so the Year and Month Pillars change at the exact moment of the solar terms, and then explain your chart: your Day Master, the Five Elements, your Useful God, your 10-year Luck Cycles and the next three years.

Do I need my birth time?

It is best to have it, because the Hour Pillar adds detail. If you don’t know it, choose “I don’t know” and we read the three pillars from your date alone. If you know only the rough period, choose the two-hour period.

Which time zone and calendar does it use?

Enter your birth time as the local clock time where you were born. For Korean births, daylight-saving periods are corrected automatically, and true solar time is applied using Seoul as the reference. If you know your birth date in the lunar calendar, you can enter that instead.

Why does it ask for gender?

In traditional Saju, gender decides whether your 10-year Luck Cycles run forward or backward and which star is read as your spouse star. Choose the one that matches the tradition you want to be read in.
