Geng Zi Day Pillar 庚子

The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Geng Zi (庚子), the Day Master is Geng Metal (a well-forged blade of steel) sitting on the Rat branch, whose element is Water.

You sit on the water of expression (Hurting Officer), with a sharp mind and silver tongue. Critical perspective is a strength and you are strong in planning and analysis, with your homework being to keep your words from getting sharp.

Geng Metal is strong and decisive like a well-forged blade. You have a clear sense of right and wrong, value principle, and are definite about what you accept and reject, so people find you trustworthy. You shine in a crisis with a fighter’s spirit and drive toward your goals. Your expression can feel stiff, so a softer tone helps relationships.

What makes Geng Zi different from the other five Geng Metal Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.

With Zi beneath your Day Master, you are deeper inside than you seem, and clever. There is Water energy in your spouse seat, so you are easily drawn to people who are intelligent, emotional and quick to sense. If you don’t show your inner feelings to each other, misunderstandings build, so a habit of confirming feelings in words makes the relationship last.

The energy of wit and critique (Hurting Officer) sits in your spouse seat, so you are drawn to articulate, distinctive partners. The key is to refine your expression so a sharp tongue doesn’t hurt.

Geng Metal loves loyally and clearly. You are definite and wholehearted, but your directness can hurt. Keep in mind that a kind word protects love better than a correct one.

Hurting Officer here means: Hurting Officer (Shang Guan) stands for sparkling creativity and a sharp critical spirit. Talented at trying new ways without being bound by existing molds, you often stand out in the arts, planning and fields that need ideas. But with a temperament that pushes back against rules and authority, friction arises easily in organizational life, so refining your way of expressing yourself lets your talent be recognized more.

Death (Si): the energy of folding up activity and sorting things out. Quiet outside, but deep in inner life and reflection.

Hidden inside the Rat branch: Ren (Water, 10 days), Gui (Water, 20 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.

Areas to look after: lungs, large intestine, bronchi, skin and nose.

Too much Metal energy dries the airways and skin, and feelings can turn dry and edgy. Fluids, humidity, soft food and warm conversation restore balance.

Too little Metal energy leaves bronchi and skin weak and prone to colds in changing seasons. Look after breathing exercises, clean air and regular bowel habits.

• Six Harmony: the Rat pairs with the Ox. People with a Ox Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
• Three Harmony: the Rat · Dragon · Monkey form a Water team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
• Clash: the Rat clashes with the Horse. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
• Perfect match on stem and branch: Yi Chou (乙丑) combines with Geng Zi on both the stem and the branch.
• Opposite pillar (most friction): Bing Wu (丙午): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.
