Yi Chou Day Pillar 乙丑
Grass in frozen ground
What does the Yi Chou Day Pillar mean?
The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Yi Chou (乙丑), the Day Master is Yi Wood (flexible grass and climbing vines) sitting on the Ox branch, whose element is Earth.
Grass that learns patience on earth of wealth (Indirect Wealth). Soft outside and tenacious inside, you quietly look after your interests and build achievements that come late but last long.
Yi Chou personality: the Yi Wood Day Master
Yi Wood has the flexibility of grass and vines that sway in the wind without breaking. You adapt well to circumstances, and behind the soft exterior lies strong persistence. You are skilled with people, quick to read the mood and attentive to detail. You may look indecisive, so practice stating a clear opinion at the moments that matter.
What makes Yi Chou different from the other five Yi Wood Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.
The Ox seat: your inner self
With Chou beneath your Day Master, you are weighty inside and strongly responsible. There is the energy of the earth in your spouse seat, so you tend to meet diligent, dependable partners. Even if your expression is clumsy, the longer it goes the deeper the relationship becomes. Remember that an occasional corny show of affection is a gift too.
Yi Chou in love and marriage
The energy of active wealth (Indirect Wealth) sits in your spouse seat, so you tend to meet sociable, generous partners. With so much charm and freedom, you need to build stability through trust and communication.
Yi Wood is gentle and quick to notice, reading your partner’s heart with care. Good at matching the mood and being considerate, but if you swallow what you want to say, hurt builds up and you may suddenly close the door. Say small things early.
Indirect Wealth here means: Indirect Wealth (Pian Cai) stands for money that flows in and out and for business skill. You have a good sense for spotting opportunity and a big appetite, so you are good at moving large sums, and you have the knack of turning a network of people into wealth. Spending can grow just as large, so planned management lets you grow your money luck more steadily.
Energy and life stage
Decline (Shuai): the energy of passing the peak and finding stability. Experienced and calm, with the strength to build substance without overreaching.
Hidden inside the Ox branch: Gui (Water, 9 days), Xin (Metal, 3 days), Ji (Earth, 18 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.
Health tendencies of Wood Day Masters
Areas to look after: liver, gallbladder, eyes, muscles and nerves.
Too much Wood energy makes irritation and anger rise easily, and you may often get headaches, a stiff neck and shoulders, and tired eyes. Rather than reaching for alcohol to dampen anger, work it off with walking and stretching.
Too little Wood energy can leave muscles and ligaments stiff, eyes tired and motivation low. Top up the energy of growth with green vegetables, regular stretching and morning sunlight.
Yi Chou compatibility
- Six Harmony: the Ox pairs with the Rat. People with a Rat Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
- Three Harmony: the Ox · Rooster · Snake form a Metal team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
- Clash: the Ox clashes with the Goat. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
- Perfect match on stem and branch: Geng Zi (庚子) combines with Yi Chou on both the stem and the branch.
- Opposite pillar (most friction): Xin Wei (辛未): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.
