What does the Yi You Day Pillar mean?

The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Yi You (乙酉), the Day Master is Yi Wood (flexible grass and climbing vines) sitting on the Rooster branch, whose element is Metal.

You sit on the metal that governs you (Seven Killings), sensitive, delicate and strict in self-management. Perfectionism can pressure you, so tell yourself, “I am doing well enough.”

Yi You personality: the Yi Wood Day Master

Yi Wood has the flexibility of grass and vines that sway in the wind without breaking. You adapt well to circumstances, and behind the soft exterior lies strong persistence. You are skilled with people, quick to read the mood and attentive to detail. You may look indecisive, so practice stating a clear opinion at the moments that matter.

What makes Yi You different from the other five Yi Wood Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.

The Rooster seat: your inner self

With You beneath your Day Master, you are neat, delicate and clear in your standards. There is refined Metal energy in your spouse seat, so you tend to meet polished, courteous partners. A moment may come when your partner’s small flaw looms large, so if you take “good enough” as the standard instead of perfect, the relationship becomes easier.

Yi You in love and marriage

The energy of strong charisma (Seven Killings) sits in your spouse seat, so you are drawn to driven, tough partners. There may be tension and conflict, but it can be a relationship that helps each other grow.

Yi Wood is gentle and quick to notice, reading your partner’s heart with care. Good at matching the mood and being considerate, but if you swallow what you want to say, hurt builds up and you may suddenly close the door. Say small things early.

Seven Killings here means: Seven Killings (Pian Guan) stands for strong drive and a spirit of challenge, and sometimes for pressure and trials too. You have a competitor’s nature that shows true worth in a crisis and often stand out in seats with heavy responsibility. You can often be in situations of stress and burden, so it helps to prepare your own way of releasing tension in body and mind.

Energy and life stage

Extinction (Jue): the energy of being cut off and starting anew. Lots of change and dramatic turns, but a big power for fresh starts.

Hidden inside the Rooster branch: Geng (Metal, 10 days), Xin (Metal, 20 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.

Health tendencies of Wood Day Masters

Areas to look after: liver, gallbladder, eyes, muscles and nerves.

Too much Wood energy makes irritation and anger rise easily, and you may often get headaches, a stiff neck and shoulders, and tired eyes. Rather than reaching for alcohol to dampen anger, work it off with walking and stretching.

Too little Wood energy can leave muscles and ligaments stiff, eyes tired and motivation low. Top up the energy of growth with green vegetables, regular stretching and morning sunlight.

Yi You compatibility

  • Six Harmony: the Rooster pairs with the Dragon. People with a Dragon Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
  • Three Harmony: the Ox · Rooster · Snake form a Metal team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
  • Clash: the Rooster clashes with the Rabbit. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
  • Perfect match on stem and branch: Geng Chen (庚辰) combines with Yi You on both the stem and the branch.
  • Opposite pillar (most friction): Xin Mao (辛卯): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.
