Yi Hai Day Pillar 乙亥
Grass growing by the water
What does the Yi Hai Day Pillar mean?
The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Yi Hai (乙亥), the Day Master is Yi Wood (flexible grass and climbing vines) sitting on the Pig branch, whose element is Water.
You sit on the water that gives you life (Direct Resource), caring and studious and helped by benefactors. Imaginative and emotional, you are steadiest when someone to share your heart is beside you.
Yi Hai personality: the Yi Wood Day Master
Yi Wood has the flexibility of grass and vines that sway in the wind without breaking. You adapt well to circumstances, and behind the soft exterior lies strong persistence. You are skilled with people, quick to read the mood and attentive to detail. You may look indecisive, so practice stating a clear opinion at the moments that matter.
What makes Yi Hai different from the other five Yi Wood Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.
The Pig seat: your inner self
With Hai beneath your Day Master, you are broad-minded, free and deeply sensitive. There is generous Water energy in your spouse seat, so you suit understanding, intellectual people. When you fall in love you seep deeply into the other person, so keeping balance so you don’t lose your own territory matters.
Yi Hai in love and marriage
The energy of care (Direct Resource) sits in your spouse seat, so you tend to meet warm, understanding partners. It is a relationship in which you become a refuge for each other.
Yi Wood is gentle and quick to notice, reading your partner’s heart with care. Good at matching the mood and being considerate, but if you swallow what you want to say, hurt builds up and you may suddenly close the door. Say small things early.
Direct Resource here means: Direct Resource (Zheng Yin) stands for scholastic luck, the support of others and a stable base of backing. You enjoy learning and feel a sense of achievement in building knowledge, and a flow of help from parents, teachers and elders appears often. Your careful, thoughtful nature earns trust, but you sometimes need to take bold challenges so that choosing only the safest option doesn’t make you miss chances.
Energy and life stage
Death (Si): the energy of folding up activity and sorting things out. Quiet outside, but deep in inner life and reflection.
Hidden inside the Pig branch: Wu (Earth, 7 days), Jia (Wood, 5 days), Ren (Water, 18 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.
Health tendencies of Wood Day Masters
Areas to look after: liver, gallbladder, eyes, muscles and nerves.
Too much Wood energy makes irritation and anger rise easily, and you may often get headaches, a stiff neck and shoulders, and tired eyes. Rather than reaching for alcohol to dampen anger, work it off with walking and stretching.
Too little Wood energy can leave muscles and ligaments stiff, eyes tired and motivation low. Top up the energy of growth with green vegetables, regular stretching and morning sunlight.
Yi Hai compatibility
- Six Harmony: the Pig pairs with the Tiger. People with a Tiger Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
- Three Harmony: the Rabbit · Goat · Pig form a Wood team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
- Clash: the Pig clashes with the Snake. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
- Perfect match on stem and branch: Geng Yin (庚寅) combines with Yi Hai on both the stem and the branch.
- Opposite pillar (most friction): Xin Si (辛巳): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.
Day Pillars are one part of compatibility. For a full comparison of two charts, try the compatibility reading.
