What does the Jia Xu Day Pillar mean?

The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Jia Xu (甲戌), the Day Master is Jia Wood (a tall tree growing straight up) sitting on the Dog branch, whose element is Earth.

You stand on earth of wealth (Indirect Wealth), where loyalty and a sense of reality coexist. Gruff on the outside and warm within, you push through whatever you decide with grit.

Jia Xu personality: the Jia Wood Day Master

Jia Wood is like a great tree reaching straight toward the sky. You are not afraid to step up and lead, and once you set a goal you push toward it to the end. People often see you as a pillar to lean on, and you draw your energy from starting things and breaking new ground. You can come across as stubborn, so listening a little more to others’ advice leads to bigger growth.

What makes Jia Xu different from the other five Jia Wood Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.

The Dog seat: your inner self

With Xu beneath your Day Master, you are deeply loyal and a one-hearted romantic who doesn’t take back a heart given. There is firm earth energy in your spouse seat, so you connect with dependable, responsible people. When stubbornness collides, it can go to a cold war without yielding, so the one who first offers a hand to make up wins.

Jia Xu in love and marriage

The energy of active wealth (Indirect Wealth) sits in your spouse seat, so you tend to meet sociable, generous partners. With so much charm and freedom, you need to build stability through trust and communication.

Jia Wood is a dependable, big-tree kind of partner. When you like someone you step forward and protect them, and you take promises and responsibility seriously. Easy to lean on, but if you insist on your own way the other person can feel pressed; listening first keeps the love steady.

Indirect Wealth here means: Indirect Wealth (Pian Cai) stands for money that flows in and out and for business skill. You have a good sense for spotting opportunity and a big appetite, so you are good at moving large sums, and you have the knack of turning a network of people into wealth. Spending can grow just as large, so planned management lets you grow your money luck more steadily.

Energy and life stage

Nurture (Yang): the energy of growing while being cared for. Protection and support come easily, and your skill grows gradually.

Hidden inside the Dog branch: Xin (Metal, 9 days), Ding (Fire, 3 days), Wu (Earth, 18 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.

Health tendencies of Wood Day Masters

Areas to look after: liver, gallbladder, eyes, muscles and nerves.

Too much Wood energy makes irritation and anger rise easily, and you may often get headaches, a stiff neck and shoulders, and tired eyes. Rather than reaching for alcohol to dampen anger, work it off with walking and stretching.

Too little Wood energy can leave muscles and ligaments stiff, eyes tired and motivation low. Top up the energy of growth with green vegetables, regular stretching and morning sunlight.

Jia Xu compatibility

  • Six Harmony: the Dog pairs with the Rabbit. People with a Rabbit Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
  • Three Harmony: the Tiger · Horse · Dog form a Fire team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
  • Clash: the Dog clashes with the Dragon. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
  • Perfect match on stem and branch: Ji Mao (己卯) combines with Jia Xu on both the stem and the branch.
  • Opposite pillar (most friction): Geng Chen (庚辰): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.
