What does the Jia Yin Day Pillar mean?

The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Jia Yin (甲寅), the Day Master is Jia Wood (a tall tree growing straight up) sitting on the Tiger branch, whose element is Wood.

You stand on your own roots (Prosperity), so your pride and independence are very strong. A leader who dislikes taking orders, you suit business and professional work, and once you tame your difficulty yielding you become a big vessel.

Jia Yin personality: the Jia Wood Day Master

Jia Wood is like a great tree reaching straight toward the sky. You are not afraid to step up and lead, and once you set a goal you push toward it to the end. People often see you as a pillar to lean on, and you draw your energy from starting things and breaking new ground. You can come across as stubborn, so listening a little more to others’ advice leads to bigger growth.

What makes Jia Yin different from the other five Jia Wood Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.

The Tiger seat: your inner self

With Yin beneath your Day Master, you are active, proud and quick to decide. There is dynamic energy in your spouse seat, so you have deep ties with independent people you can learn from. If you only watch for the tug-of-war of neither wanting to lose, it becomes a good partnership of growing together.

Jia Yin in love and marriage

The Friend energy, like you, sits in your spouse seat, so you feel comfortable in an equal, friend-like relationship. You understand each other because you are equals, but a tug-of-war over who leads can arise.

Jia Wood is a dependable, big-tree kind of partner. When you like someone you step forward and protect them, and you take promises and responsibility seriously. Easy to lean on, but if you insist on your own way the other person can feel pressed; listening first keeps the love steady.

Friend here means: Friend (Bi Jian) stands for an equal: a colleague, sibling or rival. Strongly independent, you have a clear will to do things yourself rather than lean on others, and with a definite point of view you are not easily shaken. You create synergy when you meet colleagues to work with, but you may be called stubborn, so respecting the other person’s opinion helps in collaboration.

Energy and life stage

Prosperity (Jian Lu): a stable energy of standing on your own strength. Good independence and drive, with a strong power to earn and stand by yourself.

Hidden inside the Tiger branch: Wu (Earth, 7 days), Bing (Fire, 7 days), Jia (Wood, 16 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.

Health tendencies of Wood Day Masters

Areas to look after: liver, gallbladder, eyes, muscles and nerves.

Too much Wood energy makes irritation and anger rise easily, and you may often get headaches, a stiff neck and shoulders, and tired eyes. Rather than reaching for alcohol to dampen anger, work it off with walking and stretching.

Too little Wood energy can leave muscles and ligaments stiff, eyes tired and motivation low. Top up the energy of growth with green vegetables, regular stretching and morning sunlight.

Jia Yin compatibility

  • Six Harmony: the Tiger pairs with the Pig. People with a Pig Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
  • Three Harmony: the Tiger · Horse · Dog form a Fire team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
  • Clash: the Tiger clashes with the Monkey. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
  • Perfect match on stem and branch: Ji Hai (己亥) combines with Jia Yin on both the stem and the branch.
  • Opposite pillar (most friction): Geng Shen (庚申): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.

Day Pillars are one part of compatibility. For a full comparison of two charts, try the compatibility reading.
