Gui Chou Day Pillar 癸丑

The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Gui Chou (癸丑), the Day Master is Gui Water (a clear spring and a gentle drizzle) sitting on the Ox branch, whose element is Earth.

You sit on earth that pairs with you (Seven Killings), patient and deep inside. You quietly work and get recognized, with a toughness you don’t show.

Gui Water is like a clear spring or a fine drizzle that quietly seeps in and moistens everything. Your intuition is excellent and you sense even what can’t be seen. You may look quiet but think deeply inside, and stay calm in a crisis. You rarely show your inner thoughts, so opening up a bit more to close people helps.

What makes Gui Chou different from the other five Gui Water Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.

With Chou beneath your Day Master, you are weighty inside and strongly responsible. There is the energy of the earth in your spouse seat, so you tend to meet diligent, dependable partners. Even if your expression is clumsy, the longer it goes the deeper the relationship becomes. Remember that an occasional corny show of affection is a gift too.

The energy of strong charisma (Seven Killings) sits in your spouse seat, so you are drawn to driven, tough partners. There may be tension and conflict, but it can be a relationship that helps each other grow.

Gui Water loves gently and sensitively like a drizzle. Highly empathetic, you read and comfort your partner, but you think a lot and easily imagine worries alone. When you want to check something, ask instead of guessing.

Seven Killings here means: Seven Killings (Pian Guan) stands for strong drive and a spirit of challenge, and sometimes for pressure and trials too. You have a competitor’s nature that shows true worth in a crisis and often stand out in seats with heavy responsibility. You can often be in situations of stress and burden, so it helps to prepare your own way of releasing tension in body and mind.

Capping (Guan Dai): the energy of coming of age and stepping into society. Full of spirit and confidence, with a strong wish to be recognized.

Hidden inside the Ox branch: Gui (Water, 9 days), Xin (Metal, 3 days), Ji (Earth, 18 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.

Areas to look after: kidneys, bladder, reproductive organs, ears, bones and lower back.

Too much Water energy can cause swelling or chills, and thoughts chaining on may deepen low mood. Exercise that makes you sweat, sunlight and turning thoughts into action with a to-do list help.

Too little Water energy brings dryness and fatigue that doesn’t recover, and the lower back, knees and ears may weaken. Drink water often, sleep enough and build lower-body strength.

• Six Harmony: the Ox pairs with the Rat. People with a Rat Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
• Three Harmony: the Ox · Rooster · Snake form a Metal team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
• Clash: the Ox clashes with the Goat. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
• Perfect match on stem and branch: Wu Zi (戊子) combines with Gui Chou on both the stem and the branch.
• Opposite pillar (most friction): Ji Wei (己未): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.
