Bing Zi Day Pillar 丙子

The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Bing Zi (丙子), the Day Master is Bing Fire (the sun lighting the whole world) sitting on the Rat branch, whose element is Water.

A sun sitting on the water that governs you (Direct Officer). Bright and lively on the surface, with responsibility and tension underneath. Neat, honor-minded and the kind who is recognized in organizations.

Bing Fire is bright and active like the sun lighting the whole world. You are expressive, enjoy being in front of people, and bring energy to those around you. Your frank, open nature means you hold no grudges, but your mood swings show, so a little prudence helps. Add staying power to your passion and you can truly shine.

What makes Bing Zi different from the other five Bing Fire Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.

With Zi beneath your Day Master, you are deeper inside than you seem, and clever. There is Water energy in your spouse seat, so you are easily drawn to people who are intelligent, emotional and quick to sense. If you don’t show your inner feelings to each other, misunderstandings build, so a habit of confirming feelings in words makes the relationship last.

The energy of proper responsibility (Direct Officer) sits in your spouse seat, so you tend to meet courteous, trustworthy partners. It is a foundation for a stable marriage.

Bing Fire loves brightly and warmly like sunlight. You are honest and generous with affection, and quickly make your partner happy. Feelings can run ahead, so you may rush in or cool off fast; consistency is the lesson.

Direct Officer here means: Direct Officer (Zheng Guan) stands for honor, responsibility and the power to keep order. You value principle and perform your role faithfully, so you often earn trust and recognition from others. Your luck in organizations and social position tends to be stable, and a steady, upright attitude leads over time to big results.

Conception (Tai): the energy of a new life conceived. A time of preparing and holding something, with potential that is growing.

Hidden inside the Rat branch: Ren (Water, 10 days), Gui (Water, 20 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.

Areas to look after: heart, small intestine, blood vessels, blood pressure and tongue.

Too much Fire energy sends heat upward, with insomnia, palpitations, higher blood pressure and a hasty temper standing out. Cut caffeine, late-night eating and spicy food, and try breathing meditation before sleep.

Too little Fire energy leaves the body cold and circulation slow, and enthusiasm cools easily. Raise your body’s temperature with warm food, aerobic exercise and walks in the sun.

• Six Harmony: the Rat pairs with the Ox. People with a Ox Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
• Three Harmony: the Rat · Dragon · Monkey form a Water team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
• Clash: the Rat clashes with the Horse. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
• Perfect match on stem and branch: Xin Chou (辛丑) combines with Bing Zi on both the stem and the branch.
• Opposite pillar (most friction): Ren Wu (壬午): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.
