What does the Ren Shen Day Pillar mean?

The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Ren Shen (壬申), the Day Master is Ren Water (a great river flowing to the sea) sitting on the Monkey branch, whose element is Metal.

You sit on the metal that gives you life (Indirect Resource), bright and excellent at improvising. You seize chances in movement and change, with very good learning ability and adaptability.

Ren Shen personality: the Ren Water Day Master

Ren Water holds everything and flows on like a big river or sea, with great breadth and scale. Your thinking is wide, you are open to new ideas, and you move flexibly toward big goals. You have room for many kinds of people. Your energy scatters easily, so a habit of setting priorities helps.

What makes Ren Shen different from the other five Ren Water Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.

The Monkey seat: your inner self

With Shen beneath your Day Master, you are realistic, witty and good at solving problems. There is sharp Metal energy in your spouse seat, so you are drawn to capable, no-nonsense people. So you don’t lose feeling while weighing efficiency, spend time on “emotional conversation” too.

Ren Shen in love and marriage

The energy of unusual insight (Indirect Resource) sits in your spouse seat, so you are drawn to distinctive, spiritually deep partners. You need to respect each other’s worlds while widening the points of conversation.

Ren Water loves broadly and freely like the sea. You are understanding and accept your partner as they are, but your depths are hard to fully know. You dislike restriction, so respecting each other’s freedom matters.

Indirect Resource here means: Indirect Resource (Pian Yin) stands for original thinking and unusual intuition. You have the insight to catch what others miss and often stand out in specialized and unusual fields. But you may think a lot, become indecisive, or fall into a world of your own, so adding the ability to turn thoughts into action leads to good results.

Energy and life stage

Growth (Chang Sheng): the energy of a newborn baby, with growth possibilities wide open. You are good at learning and starting, and help comes easily from others.

Hidden inside the Monkey branch: Wu (Earth, 7 days), Ren (Water, 7 days), Geng (Metal, 16 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.

Health tendencies of Water Day Masters

Areas to look after: kidneys, bladder, reproductive organs, ears, bones and lower back.

Too much Water energy can cause swelling or chills, and thoughts chaining on may deepen low mood. Exercise that makes you sweat, sunlight and turning thoughts into action with a to-do list help.

Too little Water energy brings dryness and fatigue that doesn’t recover, and the lower back, knees and ears may weaken. Drink water often, sleep enough and build lower-body strength.

Ren Shen compatibility

  • Six Harmony: the Monkey pairs with the Snake. People with a Snake Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
  • Three Harmony: the Rat · Dragon · Monkey form a Water team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
  • Clash: the Monkey clashes with the Tiger. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
  • Perfect match on stem and branch: Ding Si (丁巳) combines with Ren Shen on both the stem and the branch.
  • Opposite pillar (most friction): Wu Yin (戊寅): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.
