Traveling Horse Star Yi Ma

The star of movement and change

What is the Traveling Horse Star in BaZi?

Symbolic Stars (shen sha) are extra markers read from particular combinations of characters in a Saju (Four Pillars, BaZi) chart. They describe inborn leanings rather than fixed fate, and schools differ on which stars to use. FateHive uses the nine most widely used.

A star that means a life of moving about rather than staying in one place. Your range of activity is wide, with travel abroad, business trips, moves and job changes, and you seize chances in change. You suit work in trade, travel, logistics, sales and foreign languages, and even if you settle late, experience becomes your wealth.

How is the Traveling Horse Star found?

Take your Year Branch and your Day Branch. Each one belongs to one of four Three Harmony groups, and each group points to one branch. If that branch appears in any pillar of your chart, the star is there.

  • Water group (Monkey · Rat · Dragon): Tiger (Yin)
  • Wood group (Pig · Rabbit · Goat): Snake (Si)
  • Fire group (Tiger · Horse · Dog): Monkey (Shen)
  • Metal group (Snake · Rooster · Ox): Pig (Hai)

Traveling Horse Star in each pillar of your chart

  • Year Pillar (childhood and family influence): you may have moved or changed schools often in childhood, or left your hometown early.
  • Month Pillar (social life and career): your work involves movement, business trips and outside activity, and job changes may be frequent.
  • Day Pillar (you and your spouse relationship): your heart always faces somewhere new, and you either live far from your partner or enjoy traveling and relocating together.
  • Hour Pillar (later life and children): there may be a lot of travel abroad or movement in later life, or your children may be active far away.

Symbolic Star readings are simplified interpretations following common Saju practice and differ between schools. They are for entertainment and self-reflection.
