Void Kong Wang

The star of the empty seat

What is the Void in BaZi?

Symbolic Stars (shen sha) are extra markers read from particular combinations of characters in a Saju (Four Pillars, BaZi) chart. They describe inborn leanings rather than fixed fate, and schools differ on which stars to use. FateHive uses the nine most widely used.

A seat where the area that pillar points to is empty or tends to go differently from expectations. When you let go of attachment, you tend to gain free achievement in that area, and it can become an occasion for mental and spiritual growth. When luck fills the void, that area comes strongly alive.

How is the Void found?

The 60 Day Pillars run in six groups of ten days. Within each group two Earthly Branches never get a Heavenly Stem to pair with, and those two are your Void branches. If either of them appears in your Year, Month or Hour Pillar, the Void falls on that pillar. Find your own Void branches in the Saju calculator.

Void in each pillar of your chart

  • Year Pillar (childhood and family influence): The Year Pillar is void: you live rising on your own rather than leaning on ancestors’ or early-life blessings, and you are spiritually free.
  • Month Pillar (social life and career): The Month Pillar is void: things easily go differently from expectation in work and ties with parents, but when you let go of attachment, a road opens.
  • Day Pillar (you and your spouse relationship): The Day Branch is void: a connection with a spouse may come late or you may feel an emptiness in relationships, which fills through mental maturity.
  • Hour Pillar (later life and children): The Hour Pillar is void: blessings come when you let go of expectations of children and later life and live freely.

Symbolic Star readings are simplified interpretations following common Saju practice and differ between schools. They are for entertainment and self-reflection.
