Chinese zodiac signs by birth year

The Chinese zodiac assigns one of twelve animals to each year in a repeating cycle. The table gives the Gregorian years for each animal since 1948. Strictly speaking the animal changes at Lunar New Year (between about January 21 and February 20), not on January 1, so if you were born in January or early February, check whether you belong to the previous year’s animal.

How your Chinese zodiac reading works

How do I find my Chinese zodiac sign?

Your sign is set by your birth year, and the 12 animals repeat in a fixed cycle: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. Find your year in the list above. Because the zodiac year starts at Lunar New Year (late January to mid-February), anyone born in January or early February should check which year they belong to.

How are these daily horoscopes calculated?

Each day has its own Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch (the “Day Pillar”) in the traditional Saju calendar. We compare the animal of today’s Earthly Branch with your sign, looking for harmony, clash, penalty, harm and break relationships, and for the interaction of the Five Elements. That relationship sets the tone and the score of your reading.

Which day does “today” mean?

Saju is Korea’s version of the Chinese Four Pillars (BaZi) system, and every calendar day has its own Day Pillar. On these English pages, “today” follows U.S. Eastern Time, so the reading changes at midnight in New York. If you are in another time zone, you may see the previous or next day’s reading for a few hours.

Are these predictions meant to be taken literally?

No. Treat them as a light, structured prompt for reflection and conversation, not as advice for health, money or relationship decisions.
