What does the Wu Shen Day Pillar mean?

The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Wu Shen (戊申), the Day Master is Wu Earth (a large, steady mountain) sitting on the Monkey branch, whose element is Metal.

You sit on the metal of expression (Eating God), with excellent practical talent. Good with words and hands, strong in improvisation and quick to pick up new things.

Wu Shen personality: the Wu Earth Day Master

Wu Earth carries the weight of a big, sturdy mountain. You are steady and not easily shaken, and people feel they can lean on you. Diligent and responsible, you see things through to the end and have a good eye for the big picture. You may be slow to adapt to change, so practice flexibility when it is needed.

What makes Wu Shen different from the other five Wu Earth Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.

The Monkey seat: your inner self

With Shen beneath your Day Master, you are realistic, witty and good at solving problems. There is sharp Metal energy in your spouse seat, so you are drawn to capable, no-nonsense people. So you don’t lose feeling while weighing efficiency, spend time on “emotional conversation” too.

Wu Shen in love and marriage

The energy of ease and expression (Eating God) sits in your spouse seat, so you tend to meet warm, easygoing partners. Everyday life of eating and enjoying things together becomes the vitality of the relationship.

Wu Earth loves heavily and reliably like a mountain. Once you decide, you don’t waver and take responsibility like family. You can be clumsy at expression and seem reserved, so remembering anniversaries and saying kind words out loud helps.

Eating God here means: Eating God (Shi Shen) stands for ease, expression and the power to use talent naturally. Many people with it have a smooth flow without big trouble in making a living, and it is the energy often seen in people who work happily using a hobby or specialty. A relaxed, optimistic nature puts people at ease, but you need the balance of keeping yourself in check so ease doesn’t turn into laziness.

Energy and life stage

Illness (Bing): an energy where vitality has weakened somewhat. Looking after body and mind matters, but you are delicate and caring for it.

Hidden inside the Monkey branch: Wu (Earth, 7 days), Ren (Water, 7 days), Geng (Metal, 16 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.

Health tendencies of Earth Day Masters

Areas to look after: spleen, stomach, digestion, lips and skin.

Too much Earth energy makes the body heavy, digestion slow and worries many. Eating less and a light walk after meals to help circulation work well.

Too little Earth energy means a weak stomach and irregular meals. Warm meals at set times are the basis of your condition.

Wu Shen compatibility

  • Six Harmony: the Monkey pairs with the Snake. People with a Snake Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
  • Three Harmony: the Rat · Dragon · Monkey form a Water team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
  • Clash: the Monkey clashes with the Tiger. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
  • Perfect match on stem and branch: Gui Si (癸巳) combines with Wu Shen on both the stem and the branch.
  • Opposite pillar (most friction): Jia Yin (甲寅): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.
