Wu Chen Day Pillar 戊辰
A majestic expanse of land
What does the Wu Chen Day Pillar mean?
The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Wu Chen (戊辰), the Day Master is Wu Earth (a large, steady mountain) sitting on the Dragon branch, whose element is Earth.
You sit on earth like yourself (Friend), large in scale and proud. Generosity and ambition go together, and you have the power to lead people, though relationships can harden when you dig in.
Wu Chen personality: the Wu Earth Day Master
Wu Earth carries the weight of a big, sturdy mountain. You are steady and not easily shaken, and people feel they can lean on you. Diligent and responsible, you see things through to the end and have a good eye for the big picture. You may be slow to adapt to change, so practice flexibility when it is needed.
What makes Wu Chen different from the other five Wu Earth Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.
The Dragon seat: your inner self
With Chen beneath your Day Master, you hold many talents and ambitions inside. Various energies mix in your spouse seat, so you tend to meet strong-minded, capable partners. A push and pull over who leads can arise, but if you respect each other’s territory you become a solid team.
Wu Chen in love and marriage
The Friend energy, like you, sits in your spouse seat, so you feel comfortable in an equal, friend-like relationship. You understand each other because you are equals, but a tug-of-war over who leads can arise.
Wu Earth loves heavily and reliably like a mountain. Once you decide, you don’t waver and take responsibility like family. You can be clumsy at expression and seem reserved, so remembering anniversaries and saying kind words out loud helps.
Friend here means: Friend (Bi Jian) stands for an equal: a colleague, sibling or rival. Strongly independent, you have a clear will to do things yourself rather than lean on others, and with a definite point of view you are not easily shaken. You create synergy when you meet colleagues to work with, but you may be called stubborn, so respecting the other person’s opinion helps in collaboration.
Energy and life stage
Capping (Guan Dai): the energy of coming of age and stepping into society. Full of spirit and confidence, with a strong wish to be recognized.
Hidden inside the Dragon branch: Yi (Wood, 9 days), Gui (Water, 3 days), Wu (Earth, 18 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.
Health tendencies of Earth Day Masters
Areas to look after: spleen, stomach, digestion, lips and skin.
Too much Earth energy makes the body heavy, digestion slow and worries many. Eating less and a light walk after meals to help circulation work well.
Too little Earth energy means a weak stomach and irregular meals. Warm meals at set times are the basis of your condition.
Wu Chen compatibility
- Six Harmony: the Dragon pairs with the Rooster. People with a Rooster Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
- Three Harmony: the Rat · Dragon · Monkey form a Water team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
- Clash: the Dragon clashes with the Dog. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
- Perfect match on stem and branch: Gui You (癸酉) combines with Wu Chen on both the stem and the branch.
- Opposite pillar (most friction): Jia Xu (甲戌): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.
