What does the Ji Si Day Pillar mean?

The Day Pillar is the two characters of the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem on top (your Day Master, the “you” of a Saju chart) and an Earthly Branch below (your inner self and spouse palace). In Ji Si (己巳), the Day Master is Ji Earth (fertile farmland that grows crops) sitting on the Snake branch, whose element is Fire.

You sit on the fire that gives you life (Direct Resource), wise and practical. You grow through learning and get help from benefactors, and inside a gentle exterior you calculate quickly.

Ji Si personality: the Ji Earth Day Master

Ji Earth is like rich farmland that grows crops, combining generosity with practicality. You value real results over show, and your strengths are careful, realistic judgment. A natural caretaker, you often take on important roles in organizations and at home. You are strict with yourself, so make time to rest and look after yourself.

What makes Ji Si different from the other five Ji Earth Day Pillars is the branch it sits on, covered below.

The Snake seat: your inner self

With Si beneath your Day Master, you are quick-witted with a good competitive sense and hide passion inside. There is the energy of bright Fire in your spouse seat, so you connect with smart, attractive people. When jealousy and attachment rise, the ease of pausing for one beat protects the relationship.

Ji Si in love and marriage

The energy of care (Direct Resource) sits in your spouse seat, so you tend to meet warm, understanding partners. It is a relationship in which you become a refuge for each other.

Ji Earth loves warmly and attentively, like a field that feeds. You find meaning in caring for and supporting your partner, but tend to put your own needs last and get tired. Remember that you deserve to receive as much as you give.

Direct Resource here means: Direct Resource (Zheng Yin) stands for scholastic luck, the support of others and a stable base of backing. You enjoy learning and feel a sense of achievement in building knowledge, and a flow of help from parents, teachers and elders appears often. Your careful, thoughtful nature earns trust, but you sometimes need to take bold challenges so that choosing only the safest option doesn’t make you miss chances.

Energy and life stage

Peak (Di Wang): the height of the energy. Confidence and drive are at their maximum and the leader nature is strong, though too much can become dogmatism.

Hidden inside the Snake branch: Wu (Earth, 7 days), Geng (Metal, 7 days), Bing (Fire, 16 days). These quieter energies show up in private, under stress or later in life.

Health tendencies of Earth Day Masters

Areas to look after: spleen, stomach, digestion, lips and skin.

Too much Earth energy makes the body heavy, digestion slow and worries many. Eating less and a light walk after meals to help circulation work well.

Too little Earth energy means a weak stomach and irregular meals. Warm meals at set times are the basis of your condition.

Ji Si compatibility

  • Six Harmony: the Snake pairs with the Monkey. People with a Monkey Day Branch often feel an easy pull toward you.
  • Three Harmony: the Ox · Rooster · Snake form a Metal team, so those animals tend to bring out your best.
  • Clash: the Snake clashes with the Pig. It is not doom, only a spot where friction and change come easily.
  • Perfect match on stem and branch: Jia Shen (甲申) combines with Ji Si on both the stem and the branch.
  • Opposite pillar (most friction): Yi Hai (乙亥): its stem is Seven Killings to you and its branch clashes with yours.

Day Pillars are one part of compatibility. For a full comparison of two charts, try the compatibility reading.

How do I find my Day Pillar?

Your Day Pillar depends on your birth date, not your birth year. Enter your date of birth in the Day Pillar finder or get a complete chart with the free Saju calculator, which also gives your Day Master strength, Useful God and Luck Cycles.
